Golf cakes…

My lovely friend Ros ordered this little beauty for her mum’s retirement and birthday party; an extra special golf cake for her extra special mum.  Ros didn’t want the whole focus to be on the golf theme (Ros’ mum worked at a golf club) as she wanted it to look pretty as well, so we decided to cover the whole cake in green with little golf details…flags, golf balls, biscuit sand and golf details along with lots of pretty flowers to add femininity and lovliness 🙂 Happy cake days xxxx

To the boudoir…

Along with the kitchen renovations me and hubs have been working on the rest of the house gradually and I’m pleased to say we are getting there 🙂 Just after work was finished we managed to fulfil a little dream of mine…creating my own little boudoir space complete with hollywood lights and chandelier…indulgent I know, and not to everyone’s taste… but ever since I was little I dreamed of having those hollywood lights…and now I have my very own, which makes me feel extremely lucky and very happy xxx

Cake pops and a bird cake

To celebrate the completion of our kitchen..(woo!) We had a little shindig for friends to christen the space 🙂 Especially for the occasion I made some cake pops for us all and a very indulgent chocolate cake smothered in white chocolate and white chocolate birds and hearts.  I loved making them both, chocolate is brilliant to cover cakes in if you’re not too fussy on the finish that is hehe!!  I’m hoping to start making more cakes this way, the possibilities for design are endless…and who can resist a bit of choccy!? Love and sprinkles x

Referee cake

Previous to our kitchen being started, I forgot I had made a cake for our friend Jimmy for his 50th birthday…A referee cake with personalised whistle!! Michelle and Jimmy are so  lovely, we even got an invite to the party 🙂 It was a pleasure making this one for them 🙂

The kitchen is finished!!!

Well we did it…..our kitchen has been ripped out, gutted, cleaned, fixed, dug up and generally emptied to be replaced by a beautiful kitchen we can call our very own to be proud of.  It all started when we first bought our house…the kitchen was the best room in the house at the time and we loved it…it was a huge space with so much potential and was pretty much ready to enjoy apart from a change of paint on the walls…or so we thought…..After quite a length of time of using the kitchen every day problems started rearing their little head…the sink wasn’t fitted properly..and was plastic…which we managed to melt with a pan.  The tap was going a little bit on the side of worse for wear and wouldn’t turn properly…the laminate floor started moving….the dining room began to show signs of rising damp…the cupboards had not been fitted properly and generally the more time we spent in the kitchen the more we found problems.  We had resigned ourselves to the fact that we wouldn’t be able to afford to completely re-do the kitchen, just maybe do as much as we can as we went along.  However the time came where we thought let’s get this done and try stick to a budget…so we called in some guys to look at the rising damp in the dining room to see what was going on.

They suggested our house may have had a window at the front of the house below ground level (as a lot of terraced properties tended to do) but we thought it might be something else as the front of the house wasn’t showing any signs of hiding an extra window…but then up the garden came to reveal a window…which had not been filled/treated…just filled with lovely soil and rubbish….which had been soaking up all the lovely rainwater from our drain pipe which ran under the house(!)….so all the rain water was coming down the drain…into the garden..into the window and into our basement….then the fun began!!  Below is a pic of the kitchen before our fun started…messy on these pics as we were moving a lot around…

Before:

Once we had discovered the lovely rain was coming into the basement the builders began looking for water/damage…and pulled down a wall…..then after another phone call another wall came down……..and after another phone call the whole structure of our dining room was  removed.  All a bit sudden and left us with a bit of a hole….then the investigation of the utility room began….another wall had to be removed….then the main kitchen….which was ripped out and then the plaster removed to brick….more water problems!!  In short the whole basement had to be treated…to look like this….

….

…beautiful….but necessary 🙂  By this point washing dishes in a gorgeous ceramic bathroom sink was wearing a bit thin with a make shift kitchen on a pool table becoming quite a pain….and generally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel was difficult..but we got there…and it was definitely worth it!!!

After:

We can’t believe we now have such a beautiful space and are so happy that we have managed to fix the kitchen and basement for years to come to be enjoyed by us and future owners if we ever decide to move….which will be that little bit harder now!! hehehe!

Bad cake blogger….

Again I have found myself being extremely tardy on updating my lovely blog, so firstly apologies but hopefully some updates will make up for the massive lump of time that has managed to sneak out of my calendar 🙂

So lots has happened since my last post…we had just ordered our kitchen and were very giddy at the prospect of finally getting the beautiful basement kitchen we’ve always wanted…well we did it!! (and am very pleased to say we came away with exactly what we wanted.)….Lots of exciting things have happened for both of us since then on top of the kitchen excitement so here goes on the updates……
